About Gravity Separation of Manganese Carbonate Ore

Manganese carbonate ore is beneficiated mainly by intensity magnetic separation and floatation separation, rarely gravity separation. Most of the manganese carbonate is embedded evenly and can not be crushed into the liberation size. Some manganese carbonate ore can be milled into the liberation size, but the fineness is not suitable for the jigging separation. The research is for manganese carbonate ore from South Africa. The client post the samples to Forui and appointed Forui to do the test and design the flow sheet and plant allocation. This manganese carbonate is embedded very evenly, and the waste stone is mainly silica with the granularity size of silica is very clear and there is the liberation between silica and manganese. The density of silica is small and has a clear difference from that of the manganese mineral. The client asked for gravity separation and Forui did gravity separation test about the samples.

Crushing and screening has been done firstly to the ore. -10mm ore can be fed to the trail jigger, so the ore was crushed to be -10mm for the beneficiation test to get the final manganese concentrate. There is some manganese in the tailings because of the granularity evenly embedded, and different jigging system shall be needed for coarse granularity and fins size to gain the ideal beneficiation efficiency.

The test showed not all manganese carbonate ore can not be beneficiated by gravity separation. And this test gave a lesson to forui to realize the failure of experimentalism. For most situations, only magnetic separation or floatation can work for manganese carbonate and this test goes the other way. Gravity separation can help to gain a greater beneficiation efficiency than magnetic separation. And the customer was very satisfied with the test result.
