Recovering of Ferro-Nickel Granules from Reduzate of Kiln-Roasted Processing of Laterite Nickel Ore

There is pyrogenic process and wet process for laterite nickel ore. Wet process has been developed with the building of three laterite nickel ore acid leaching in Australia. However, pyrogenic process is also the leading flow sheet for laterite nickel ore processing considering the investment, building and technology. For pyrogenic process, both iron and nickel can be recycled and used in stainless steel production, and this is the advantage of pyrogenic process. Flow chart of pyrogenic process can be blast furnace melting process and rotary kiln-electric furnace reduction smelting process. The blast furnace is contaminative, and high-energy-consuming, and will be limited by government policy. Flow sheet of rotary kiln-electric furnace reduction smelting process can be used for kinds of laterite nickel ore with its flexible scale, feeding size, low requirement about the furnace burden, and high energy-consuming. Japan Oyama Smelter uses rotary kiln to produce iron granules by reduction roasting. Then after jigging separation and magnetic separation, ferro-nickel alloy of 18%-22% Ni can be gained to produce stainless steel and this method has been considered as the most economic way to process laterite nickel ore.

The flow sheet of rotary kiln reduction smelting to get ferro-nickel granules is the most ideal way to deal with laterite nickel ore, but the technology is mastered so widely. This flow sheet can produce obvious ferro-nickel granules, but it needs jig machine and magnetic separator for further processing. Here Forui introduces a method to recover ferro-nickel alloy granules.

The reduzate needs crushing and screening before jigging and magnetic separation. The crushing will liberate the granules from the other materials, and then jig concentration machine canbe used to recover the coarse ferro-nickel alloy granules which are the best ferro-nickel production with its weak magnetism. There is also much magnetic iron in the other materials, so jigger can be the ideal and only machine to get the alloy granules. The alloy concentrate from jigging separator has been used in production of stainless steel. There are lots of fine granules and broken alloys in the Tailings from jig separators, and the fine alloy granules and the broken alloy will be recovered by magnetic separator and then put back for second smelting.
