Silicomanganese Slag Recycling Solution

Silicomanganses slag is the by-product during manufacturing the silicomanganese alloy, production of 1KG silicomanganese alloy is accompanied by generation of about 1.2 Kg of ilicomanganese slag. The discarded slag usually contains 10–14 mass% Mn that can be recovered. It was thus highly desirable to develop a novel process for recovering manganese from the slag in order to tilize effectively manganese resources and minimize the environmental problems caused by the slag of which the generation amount will increase in the future.

The recoverable Mn-bearing materials in the slag are manganosite and silicomanganese alloy. The manganosite is finely disseminated, spread quite uniformly throughout the slag. It is difficult to be liberated from the slag and recovered. But the silicomanganese alloy which features coarse size distribution, can be recovered by using the gravity separation as the big difference in density with the slag. So the recovery of manganese from silicomanganese slag is mainly described as recovery of silicomanganese alloy from silicomanganese slag.

There are two types of silicomanganese slag: water-granulated slag and dry bulky slag, so we have two treatment process of silicomanganese slag to introduce.

1.water-granulated slag recycling solution

The water-granulated slag is loose and granular. The alloy in water-granulated slag is with high liberation degree, simple crushing circuit is used. The crushed slag is fed to gravity separator to recover the alloy.

2. Dry Slag Recycling Solution

The dry slag is lumpy and large in size, the alloy is embedded in the slag. Two-stage crushing is necessary to liberate the alloy from slag. After crushing, the jig machine is used to recover the alloy.
