Limonite is similar to hematite and specularite, and also belongs to weak magnetic iron ore. Its beneficiation methods include gravity beneficiation, strong magnetic separation, flotation, and magnetization roasting. Among them, the most commonly used methods are gravity beneficiation and magnetization roasting . Therefore, the common limonite beneficiation production line is divided into limonite gravity beneficiation production line and limonite magnetization roasting production line.

The gravity beneficiation method is very suitable for the beneficiation and purification of coarse-grained limonite, and it is not good for the extremely-fine-grained limonite beneficiation. Gravity separation method has the characteristics of small equipment investment, low operating cost, large processing capacity of the production line and high efficiency, which is very suitable for small and medium-sized limonite beneficiation plants.
Although the magnetization roasting method is of great help in improving the beneficiation of limonite, it is mostly used in large-scale iron ore beneficiation plants due to huge equipment investment, complicated process flow and high operating costs.
Small and medium-sized beneficiation plants cannot bear such a high cost. In contrast, the investment of the limonite gravity beneficiation production line with the same processing capacity is only one tenth of the investment of the limonite magnetization roasting production line.
For the coarse-grained limonite, the most simple and suitable beneficiation method is gravity beneficiation. The limonite gravity beneficiation production line and gravity beneficiation process only have a significant effect on coarse-grained limonite beneficiation,for the extremely-fine-grained limonite, the flotation method or the magnetization roasting method should be adopted according to the actual situation.
Normally, the limonite beneficiation production line must include crushing process, screening process, gravity beneficiation process, dewatering process, etc. The crushing process usually adopts jaw crusher or cone crusher according to the situation. The screening process adopts circular vibrating screen or linear screen. The gravity beneficiation process adopts different models of jig machine according to the size of limonite crystal particles in the ore . The dewatering process uses a linear dewatering screen to dewater the concentrate and tailings for transportation and storage.

The gravity beneficiation equipment used in limonite is mainly a jig machine, it can separate the limonite and waste rock according to the difference in specific gravity, and obtain the limonite concentrate with a larger specific gravity and the waste rock with a small specific gravity separately .A single jig cannot complete the beneficiation of limonite ore, it needs auxiliary equipments such as crusher, vibrating screen, feeder, etc. to form a limonite gravity beneficiation production line.
