Most ferrochrome plants lose considerable amounts of metal in their slag and metal–slag mix. Depending on the smelting process and the age of the slag dump, the ferrochrome contents vary between 3% and 15%.

Recovery of ferrochrome from mixed metal and slag through mechanized means is widely practiced and assumes immense importance from the metal recovery and economic point of view.

Simple physical (gravity) separation methods like jigging and tabling are widely used for the recovery of ferrochrome. As a professional jig manufacturer, Forui Machinery would like to share our experience about  how jigs recover ferrochrome from slag.

Ferrochrome with particles of different sizes is embedded in the slag ,to separate these ferrochrome, the slag must be crushed first to completely dissociate the ferrochrome alloy and waste slag,and then sent to the jig machine for sorting. Ferrochrome alloy and waste slag enter the jig at the same time, due to their different specific gravity, they are re-layered in the pulsating water flow formed by the jig : The ferrochrome alloy with a larger specific gravity settles fast and enters the lower layer. The waste slag with a smaller specific gravity settles slowly, and finally floats on the upper layer. In this way, the alloy and waste slag are re-layered, and then discharged out of the machine through a special discharge device. This is the process of jig recovering ferrochrome.
