Ferrochrome slag is a by-product from the production of ferrochrome, an essential component in stainless steel. There is a certain amount of ferrochrome alloy in the slag. Recycling the alloy in slag can not only reduce the waste of valuable resources, but also get rich returns.

2. What can we get from Ferrochrom slag

Ferrochrome smelting slag recovery solution is mainly to recover the valuable ferrochrome alloys from the slag in a forms that will be as far as possible directly saleable. This solution is now producing saleable ferrochrome containing less than 2% slag at a recovery of over 90% of liberated metal.  For this solution, not only the smelting alloy can be recovered, but also the final slag can be recycled. Here we share some process technology about ferrochrome smelting slag.

3.How to get the alloy?

Specific gravity of ferrochrome alloy is much bigger than that of slag, so gravity separation will be the ideal and high efficient way to get the alloy granules attached to the smelting slag. Gravity separation mainly separates metals on basic of specific gravity difference between alloy and waste slag. The bigger the difference is, the better the efficiency will be. Both fine and coarse alloy can be recovered by gravity separation machines.

Due to the price of coarse ferrochrome alloy is much higher than that of fine sand ferrochrome alloy, so here the gravity separation is able to get both fine and coarse alloy separately to meet the best profit for the owner. The general flow sheet to recover the ferrochrome alloy can be as below.

After rough crushing and fine crushing, all slag has been -30mm. This -30mm slag will be screened to be 0-8mm and 8-30mm, and slag of these two size ranges will go for down-driving jigger and AM30 jigger to get alloy granules of 0-8mm and 8-30mm. There shall be some fine alloy grains in the slag, so the tailings from the jiggers can be milled further and go for trapezoidal jigger for further recovery of fine alloy. The whole recovery rate can be +90%. The final tailings can be made of new-type building material to totally recycling the whole ferrochrome smelting slag.
